            Questions about Membership Benefits

            Can I use my membership at other zoos and aquariums?

            You can use your membership for entry at other reciprocal zoos and aquariums across the country for half-price admission.?(Get the list here.)?Remember, each zoo has its own policies and your membership privileges may not work the same way at each zoo. Please contact the zoo you are visiting prior to arrival for specific details and to make sure there have been no changes.

            Can I use my membership at other local attractions?

            Yes! Museums and attractions in the Portland metro area and beyond have teamed up to offer a reciprocal membership program. This special promotion was initiated as a way to show appreciation for each attraction's loyal members, as well as to highlight the important role that cultural attractions play in the community. Participating organizations change yearly and admission is limited to four people per membership, no matter what level you have.?(See participating attractions.)?Please note, at this time, reciprocal benefits will be available at the discretion of each participating organization and are not guaranteed. Please check with the zoo or aquarium you wish to visit before you go.

            I have a membership with a reciprocal zoo. Can I use my guest passes at the Oregon Zoo?

            Reciprocity benefits are awarded to those individuals specifically named on your Zoo membership pass only. Guest passes from reciprocal zoo memberships will not be honored.?Please note, the Oregon Zoo is not able to honor reciprocal benefits during the modified reopening period. Please continue to check for updates.

            Is ZooLights free for members?*

            There is one free ZooLights preview night for zoo members. On all other nights, members receive discounted admission tickets to ZooLights by logging in before purchasing tickets online or by presenting a valid membership card at the zoo. *All information is subject to change due to COVID-19 limitations.

            Do members receive discounted Summer Concert tickets?

            There are no discounts for Summer Concert tickets for members. Current members who provide us with a valid email will receive advance notification of pre-sale opportunities. Typically, members will have the option to purchase concert tickets 2-3 day in advance of the public on-sale date using an access code included in the notification email. If you have not provided us with a valid email, please contact us at 503.505.5493 or email us at membership@oregonzoo.org to make sure you don’t miss out on this special member benefit.

            Is my membership tax-deductible?

            The Oregon Zoo Foundation is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization. The IRS has issued guidelines that affect the charitable contribution portion of memberships. Under those guidelines, members may claim the amount of their membership, less the fair market value of benefits received. For Individual, Dual, Family, Family Deluxe, Zoo Keepers Club and Zoo Directors Club members, the fair market value of benefits received is not substantial and your gift is tax-deductible to the fullest extent of the law.? All additional charitable donations to the Oregon Zoo are also tax-deductible. If you require additional documentation for tax purposes or matching gift requests, please contact us at membership@oregonzoo.org or 503-505-5493.

            Ask your employer to match your gift. Many companies match charitable gifts made by their employees, retired employees and their spouses. Please check to see if your employer might match your gift dollar for dollar – some companies even double or triple the amount of your gift, at no cost to you!


            Questions about Changing or Updating Membership Information

            What happens if I want to change a name on my membership?

            Name changes are not permitted until the time of renewal. If you have another adult that you wish to add to your Family level or higher membership, consider purchasing a Caregiver Card.

            How do I upgrade my membership?

            You may upgrade at any time during your membership by paying the difference between the price paid and the current price of the higher level. Your expiration date will remain the same. You can upgrade your membership by phone: 503-505-5493, 9am to 4pm.

            When does my membership expire?

            Memberships expire 365 days from date of purchase. The expiration date is printed on the back of your membership card. If you have an online account, you can also log in to check the status of your membership. If you are renewing a membership that has not yet expired, it will expire one year from the current expiration date.

            I need to update my contact information.

            To change your mailing address or other contact information, please call us at 503.505.5493, email us at?membership@oregonzoo.org.?

            I’m moving or no longer want my membership. Can I get a refund?

            Funds raised?by the zoo’s membership program directly support the Oregon Zoo’s daily operations and conservation work. Memberships are non-refundable. If you are moving, be sure to check with the local zoo or aquarium in your new area for reciprocal benefits for the remainder of your Oregon Zoo membership.

            I purchased my membership a few months ago and haven’t used it. Can I get an extension for the time it wasn’t used?

            We do not?assign credit for time the membership was not used. Your membership is active for 365 days from date of purchase.

            I’m no longer able to use my membership; can I transfer the remaining months on my membership to a friend or family members?

            No. Memberships are non-transferable.

            I’m planning on leaving town for an extended period of time. Can I put my membership on hold?

            Unfortunately, we are unable to place temporary freezes or holds on memberships.


            Questions about Using your Membership

            Why do I have to show photo ID with my card?

            All named cardholders must present photo ID upon entering the zoo to prevent misuse of membership. As a nonprofit organization, we rely greatly on membership and admission revenue for support. If memberships were shared by families and friends, we would not be able to support your zoo as effectively. Not only does requiring an ID protect the value of all memberships, but it also protects you if your card is ever lost or stolen.?Please note: At this time membership card printing has been suspended. You are only required to show photo ID matching the membership information printed on your reservation.

            Can I use my membership if I left my card at home?

            Yes.? At this time, the zoo is not printing membership cards, and we are looking into digital or more environmentally friendly options. Your membership information will be printed on your reservation tickets and you will only be asked to show a photo ID matching the name(s) on your member reservation.

            How do I bring a guest or children with me to the zoo?

            Guests or children covered by a membership must be accompanied by a named adult on the membership. Guests or children may not access the zoo without a named member present. Caregiver Cardholders do not have access to the free guest benefit.

            My child wants to come to the zoo without me. Can I give them my card?

            No. Membership benefits and privileges, including allowable children and guests, are for named adult cardholders only. At least one named cardholder must be present for guests and children to gain access to the zoo. If you would like your children to come to the zoo without you, you must have a Family level membership or higher and you would have to purchase a Caregiver Card so that another named adult may accompany your child or children into the zoo without you.??

            Can I share a membership with my friends or extended family members?

            Memberships may not be shared by more than one household. All adults named on the card and their children up to age 18 must reside in the same household. Memberships are not transferable and are only valid for the individuals named on the card.

            Can I loan my membership card to a friend, family member or caretaker?

            No. Your membership card and associated privileges are not transferable to any other individual or family. You will be asked to present a valid photo ID for the named members listed on your membership at the time of your visit.

            I purchased a membership online. When will I receive my membership card?

            At this time, the zoo is not printing membership cards. Your membership information will be printed on your reservation tickets and you will only be asked to show a photo ID matching the name(s) on your member reservation.

            I lost my membership card. How can I get a new one?

            Questions about Gift Cards or Certificates

            Can I purchase a membership as a gift??

            Yes. You can purchase electronic gift cards online, which can be emailed immediately to your recipient with a special message from you. Alternatively, you can purchase a physical gift card by calling the Membership Office at 503.505.5493, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Postal tracking fees will apply for physical gift cards.?Any gift card with a barcode can be redeemed online or over the phone. Gift cards without a bar code can only be redeemed over the phone.

            How do I purchase a membership to donate to a raffle, drawing, or adopted family?

            When you purchase a physical gift card, you do not have to name the recipient. The gift card comes with its own envelope and allows you to add a special message.?The recipient of the gift card can activate their membership online or over the phone. Gift cards are available online or by calling the Membership Office at 503.505.5493, Monday thru Friday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Postal tracking fees will apply for physical gift cards.?

            How do I redeem my gift card?

            Gift cards (electronic or physical) can be used as a payment or partial-payment method for your membership purchase or renewal.?Any gift card with a barcode can be redeemed online . Gift cards without a bar code can only be redeemed over the phone.?

            I lost my gift card. What can I do?

            Gift cards cannot be replaced if lost or stolen. If you have your receipt, please contact the Membership Office at?503-505-5493 and we will try our best to help you.

            I want my gift of membership to be a surprise for my recipient. Can I have the membership cards mailed to me to present to the recipients?

            No, all membership information and collateral can only be mailed to the primary address for the named cardholders. Members are also notified of membership purchases or renewal via email shortly after the membership is activated. Additionally, we require a valid email address for the member so that they can create an online account that is required to reserve membership visits to the zoo at this time. If you cannot provide a valid email and address for the member, we recommend purchasing an Oregon Zoo gift card for your recipient - especially if you would prefer a surprise gift. No membership information is needed for Gift Cards at the time of purchase and the membership does not begin until the recipient redeems the gift card.

            I bought a gift of membership and would like to be notified when that gift is up for renewal. Can renewal notices be sent to me instead of the member?

            Because members are eligible for online early renewal discounts, renewal notices are sent to the member directly. They can forward that renewal notice to you upon receipt, or you can choose to opt-in to the auto-renewal option and allow the membership to be automatically charged to your credit card within a week of the gift membership's expiration. Enrolling in auto-renewal automatically gives you a 15% discount on the renewal.

            Questions about Membership Levels and Add-On Options

            What if I do not have a 2nd Adult in my household?

            For memberships that allow for two named adults, you are not required to name a 2nd adult. However, not adding one does not give you any additional membership benefits or privileges.

            Who is considered to be a dependent on a membership?

            Children ages 0-18 years of age are eligible dependents for memberships that allow children. The number of dependents admitted is dependent on the membership level.?

            Do I need to include infants under the age of 3 on my membership?

            Yes, all children aged 0-18 are included as "children" covered by a membership. Infants are only free with paid General Admission tickets. Membership is not the equivalent of a GA ticket because membership allows for an entire year of admission for a very low price. For levels that do not include children, your infant can be covered using your guest privilege.

            I have a nanny/child care provider. What’s the best membership for me?

            The Family or Family Deluxe memberships will work for you but the nanny must be a named adult on the membership in order for him/her to receive admission when bringing the children to the zoo without you. Your nanny can be listed as the 2nd named adult on the membership or you can purchase a Caregiver Card for one named adult (restrictions apply). You may not add a caregiver card to a Dual or Individual membership.

            What is a Caregiver Card?

            A Caregiver Card is a paid add-on to a Family level or higher membership that enables one additional adult to be listed on the account to accompany the allowable number of dependent or infant children into the zoo without the primary cardholders being present. Any adult guests or additional children visiting with the Caregiver Card holder must purchase General Admission tickets. Please note, your Caregiver Card is for one named adult only. If you change caregivers before your membership expires or if you have more than one caregiver, you will have to purchase a new Caregiver Card at full price. There is a limit of 2 Caregivers for any membership.

            How do I add a Caregiver Card to my membership?

            Caregiver Cards can be added to existing memberships by calling 503-505-5493, 9am to 4pm. Otherwise, you may add a Caregiver online at time of purchase.

            What is a Junior Cardholder?

            Due to lack of program interest, this option has been discontinued.


            Questions about Discounts

            How does auto-renewal work? When will I be charged for my renewal? Will I be notified prior to renewal? Can I update my auto-renew information??

            If you choose to opt-in for auto-renewal of your membership, the credit card provided at the time of purchase will be charged within one week of your renewal date, and will automatically give you a 15% discount on your renewal. Auto-renewal options can be changed online at any time.

            Are there any discounts for purchasing memberships??

            Members who renew early will receive special limited-time promotional codes for discounted renewal memberships. Early renewal discounts are available online only. Only 1 discount is allowed per membership purchase. Discounts must be applied at time of purchase and are not valid on prior purchases.?

            I forgot to use my discount code with my purchase or renewal. Can I get credit?

            Discounts cannot be applied after the purchase is complete. If you forgot to use your discount code, please watch for new offers in the future. Current members are eligible for early renewal discount opportunities if their membership is not yet expired.

            I purchased or renewed a membership but later found or received a discount offer. Can I get credit?

            Discounts cannot be applied after the purchase is complete. Please watch for new offers in the future.?

            Can I use multiple discount codes for one transaction?

            No. You may only use one discount per purchase. Although some discounts codes online will discount all of your purchases if you buy or renew more than one membership at a time.
