Do you ever have those moments when you take a step back and think about all the people who have come into your life? And, then you think a little more and start to wonder if these people were placed in your life for a reason? Maybe it was just the stars aligning. Maybe it was fate. There has to be a reason, right? I’m a firm believer that people come into your life when you really need them and they really need you.
Last Fall, I was contacted to take pictures of a young cancer fighter. She was going to be surprised with a Hero Package from a non-profit called, Gamerosity. I’ll be completely honest – I had never heard of this organization and I had no idea what a Hero Package was, but once I found out what they do and what they stood for, I knew I had to be involved.
Miss A thought we were getting together to take some pictures for the Gamerosity website. Having met the founder over the summer and being a BIG fan of his, she was game. What she didn’t know was that this photo session was more than just taking a few pictures for a website. It was a special moment where she was presented with her Hero Package. Good surprises are the best!
This Hero Package was a message of love and support and “you got this” from people all across the country. People, mostly strangers, who wanted to let Miss A know they were thinking of her and praying for her. This package was just a little something to help her through her cancer treatments. Something to give her a little bit of sunshine during some dark and tough times.
When she realized something more was going on, the look on Miss A’s face was priceless. The vibe in the air is something I’ll never be able to fully explain. It was a beautiful day and to witness the joy that came from a seemingly little gesture is something I will never forget. For a little lady to know that so many people around the country came together to give this to her…it’s something that will stay with her forever, I’m sure.
Gamerosity is a non-profit, based out of Oregon, that uses the power of crowd-funding to give childhood cancer fighters a backpack full of gifts (iPad, hat, stuffed animal, book, cape, sunglasses, iTunes gift card…just to new a few goodies) to help them during treatments, hospital stays, and whenever they need a reminder that they aren’t alone in this fight.
I encourage you to check out Gamerosity and see all the good they do for kids trying to kick cancer to the curb. Go to their website and check out the Hero Wall. You can donate to a specific child, a child who has been on the campaign the longest, or a child closest to being funded. You can also shop their clothing line which gives a portion of each sale to a Hero. I have a couple of their shirts and let me tell you – they are amazingly soft and comfortable.
Miss A and her family hold a special place in my heart and there isn’t a day that goes by that I don’t think about her. Because of her, I look at life differently. I am in awe of her strength and her awesome sense of humor. I am so glad to have crossed paths with her. So…send her some prayers and some happy, healing vibes, ok? Because she’s got this. 🙂
